The car was launched as the F150 in late January, but the moniker prompted objections from Ford, who produce a best-selling pick-up truck of the same name in the US. In response Ferrari announced the car would become known by its full title, the F150th Italia.
Now, with Ford having withdrawn the threat of legal action, Ferrari have made a final tweak, dropping the ‘F’ prefix and changing the English ‘th’ to the Italian equivalent. The name is a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.
In other weekend Ferrari news, Superleague Formula driver Davide Rigon made his test debut with the team, carrying out straight-line aero work at Vairano. The Italian, who is part of Ferrari’s F1 simulator programme this year, had been scheduled to test the team’s 2009 car at Fiorano earlier in the week, but that session fell victim to poor weather.
Ferrari begin their final pre-season test of 2011 at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya this Wednesday, with Felipe Massa on track for two days, followed by Fernando Alonso for two days.
